History
UR1 International had its humble beginnings in the back of the Palti family photo shop in the Melbourne Australian, suburb of Glen Waverley… In 1982 Mr. and Mrs. Palti opened the store, with Mr. Palti and Aviv running it. A year later the family decided to add a couple of satellite stores and diversify into wholesaling frames and albums.
Early shipments were stored at the back of the shop, and Aviv assumed the role of sales representative.
The newly-founded UR1 International (the family wanted a customer focused name – UR1 stands for ‘you’, the customer, ‘are number one’ – was registered in August 1983 and the company exhibited at its first trade show.
Roni Palti joined the company a year later and with his knowledge in the Information Technology field, the company installed its first computer. UR1 moved to larger premises later that year.
Over the next several years the company continued to expand in Australia and offices were opened in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth – the company now had national coverage servicing independent retail accounts.
In 1985 UR1 started exhibiting at major overseas trade shows and has had great success establishing distributors around the globe and in 1988 UR1 was selected as the exclusive Australian Bicentennial frame and album supplier.
In 2000 Australia hosted the Olympics in Sydney and UR1 was the exclusive frame and album licensee.
Over the years, UR1 became the Disney Licensee for photo frames and albums in Australia, as well as the worldwide Anne Geddes licensee for photo albums, framed prints and jigsaw puzzles. Both these strong relationships continue to this day!
In 2002 UR1 expanded its operations and opened a sales office and logistics operations in Auckland New Zealand, and in 2003 UR1 opened its own office and logistics operations in Los Angeles, USA. This enabled the direct servicing of key accounts including Wal-Mart, Walgreens and Target.
Canadian distribution expanded to service large accounts including Loblaws, London Drug and Wal-Mart Canada.
In 2005 UR1 UK was established with offices in London and full logistics operations in Chester (UK), servicing the whole of Europe.
In 2007 UR1 introduced Digital Photo frames to their expanding product range, and in 2008 UR1 USA appointed Pinnacle Frames as its American and Canadian distributor, transitioning all operations to Pinnacle.
Today UR1 International is one of the world’s leading distributors of photo frames and albums. Each Country office with its National Sales and Merchandising Teams is able to service the grocery, mass, specialty and department store channels. The company is fully integrated to conceptualize, design, source, distribute and visually present its products through all retail channels.
UR1 also maintains offices and its own logistics and distribution facilities in Melbourne Australia and Auckland New Zealand. Additionally, the company has teams in Hong Kong and China, who maintain factory liaison and carry out quality control inspections. UR1’s products are distributed in over 45 countries through selected distributors and can be found in some of the world’s leading retailers, including Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Carrefour and Auchan, to name but a few.
UR1 continues to lead in the marketing of frames and albums world-wide with an in-house Design Studio and full category management capabilities, including planogramming and reporting. UR1 also maintains an edge on the IT front, with its in-house management of all IT services to support team members and key retailers with full pick, Scan Pack and despatch operations.
While the company’s 140,000 square foot head office and warehousing facility is a world away from its humble beginnings, the Palti's are still all actively involved in leading a world-class business with a world-class team.
